4th of July

This was the first 4th of July I have spent in the States in years! I had a lot of fun. My friend Lindsey and I went to St. Pete beach and soaked up the sun all day then watched the fireworks from the beach. It was verry relaxing.

Here are some pics!

Healing Process

So here are some more pics of the burn as it heals. It is actually looking really good. I am thoroughly surprised with how quickly it's healing. The swelling is gone and all the fluid from the blister is gone which has actually allowed the blistered skin to settle down and reattach to my finger. I thought for sure it was all going to rip off since it was getting so soft and puffy. Then, this morning I woke up and almost had a normal finger again!

My burn

So last night one of my roomies came home drunk from a concert and decided to try cooking.... This is a terrible idea.

Long story short, I put out the fire with baking soda and managed to get some of the scalding hot oil she had in the pan on my hand resulting in a lovely second degree burn. After I got the flames under control I put my finger under cold running water which felt soooo good. I took a shower before bed, which wasn't the best idea since my finger was still burning internally and I was in a mild state of shock, resulting in my almost passing out in the shower. Luckily I could feel myself slipping away so I got out of the shower and laid down in bed.

By this point my whole hand was throbbing and it felt like all my nerves were on fire so I filled a tupperware container with cold water and soaked my hand in it. I periodically took my hand out to try and go to sleep, but the pain was too much. So, until about 4 am I was dipping my hand in and out of the water and not getting very much sleep.

This morning I went to the student health center where they popped and drained the blister. The needle she pulled out was huge but surprisingly it didn't hurt at all when she popped the blister. After draining it in a few spots, she put this white cream with silver in it and bandaged me up. Then I faced the challenge of trying to draw for 3 hours without my index finger...that was interesting. I am supposed to finish my prints for printmaking by the end of class tomorrow but I just don't know if that is going to happen. With my finger like this it is kinda hard to do a lot of the stuff and not get the bandage covered in ink, acid, solvent, etc.

Well, it is late and I need to be in the print studio early tomorrow. Time for bed.
